She died 4 June 1912 and the cause of death given was "exhaustion of chronic melancholia". Obviously her last years were not filled with much enjoyment of life.Joanne Barnardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08266142659080639073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2681545436531220103.post-53251703468437094032015-08-22T10:29:34.830-07:002015-08-22T10:29:34.830-07:00Thank you, Beth. I also had some ancestors associated with Kviteseid and Nes which are even closer to yours. Maybe we'll find out we are related from somewhere back there.Joanne Barnardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08266142659080639073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2681545436531220103.post-69891840593960743172015-08-21T17:13:35.225-07:002015-08-21T17:13:35.225-07:00Thank you for sharing Jorgena's story. Two ancestral families emigrated in 1866 and 1867 and settled in Minnesota. They were from Bø. Bø is not that far from Nissedal; perhaps we have a distant family connection, or at some point your ancestors knew my ancestors.Beth https://www.blogger.com/profile/07699629748818185124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2681545436531220103.post-18111586779337712322015-08-21T16:48:43.557-07:002015-08-21T16:48:43.557-07:00Thank you, Amy, for those suggestions for finding ...Thank you, Amy, for those suggestions for finding out more about Jorgena. Thank you for sharing it with us.
A couple of suggestions, if you haven't tried them already -- first, look for the 1912 and 1913 annual reports of the Yankton hospital. The annual reports of state institutions often list the "inmates" who died the previous year, often with the date of death. You'll probably find it at the state library or state archives. (I haven't looked, but it might even be on Google Books.) Second, try to access the hospital's admission registers. Unfortunately, they might be restricted due to "privacy concerns." They would most likely be at the state archives.
Best wishes for finding more about Jorgena and telling more of her story.
